The Mill - probably the best brunch place in town

The Mill bangs out good, solid brunches and punchy flat whites in unassuming, softly-lit premises.

It's deservedly rammed on weekends and caters to the usual assortment of tourists, with seemingly very few locals making the trip; I went there with a Portuguese friend one Saturday morning and we were the only ones speaking Portuguese. Brunch isn't part of Portuguese culture, so it's very much a tourist offering. There are various places in Lisbon that will happily charge you 9 euros for avocado on toast, but this is my favourite one by a long shot.

The prices aren't taking the mick, and the coffee is made by an Australian. Music is piped in at the chilled end of the spectrum.

Bonus point: they don't allow laptops, which dodges the sterile weekday look of blank single faces looking down at facebook. Having just looked at their website, however, I see that the main photo shows a wide shot of people looking at their phones. Ah well.
